Account & Sign Up
How do I create an account?
- Visit embrly.ca and click "Sign Up"
- Enter your email and create a password
- Verify your email (click the link we send you)
You start on the Spark plan (10 GB free) with no credit card required.
Can I upgrade or downgrade my plan?
Yes. Go to Settings → Billing:
- Upgrade — instant, pro-rated for the remainder of your billing cycle
- Downgrade — takes effect at the next renewal date
- Cancel — anytime, no lock-in
How do I reset my password?
- Go to the login page and click "Forgot Password?"
- Enter your email address
- Click the link in the email we send
- Set a new password
How do I delete my account?
Settings → Account → Delete Account, then enter your password to confirm.
Account deletion is permanent. All files and data are deleted immediately and cannot be recovered.
Files & Uploads
What file types are supported?
Most file types are accepted. The following are blocked for security reasons:
- Executable files (
.exe,.bat,.sh,.ps1, etc. when uploaded directly) - Files that trigger malware detection by VirusTotal
What are the upload size limits?

Files larger than your plan limit must be split or upgraded.
Can I password-protect a file?
Yes. When uploading or by editing an existing file, set a password. Anyone accessing the file will need to enter it. Passwords are hashed server-side — we never see them in plain text.
Can I set a file to auto-delete?
Yes. Set an expiration date on upload or afterward via the edit dialog. The file is automatically deleted at the set time. You'll receive an email reminder 2 days before expiration.
How do I share a private file with someone?
Add them as a collaborator:
- Open the file details
- Click "Add Collaborator"
- Enter their email address
- Choose View or Edit permission
They'll receive an email invite. You can revoke access at any time.
Security & Privacy
Do you scan uploaded files?
Yes. Every upload is scanned using a VirusTotal hash-lookup against 71+ antivirus engines. The file content itself is never sent to VirusTotal — only its SHA-256 hash. See VirusTotal Integration for details.
What is the HIBP check at login?
When you sign in, Emberly checks whether your password appears in known data breach databases via HaveIBeenPwned. Your password is never sent — only the first 5 characters of its SHA-1 hash. If found, you're warned and given the option to change your password. See HIBP Integration for details.
Is my data encrypted?
Yes:
- Files are encrypted at rest in storage
- All connections use HTTPS (TLS)
- Passwords are hashed with bcrypt
- File passwords use server-side hashing
Custom Domains
How many custom domains can I have?
Your limit is based on your plan, plus any bonuses from perks:

How do I verify a custom domain?
Add a CNAME record pointing your domain to cname.embrly.ca, then click "Verify" in your dashboard. TLS is provisioned automatically via Cloudflare. See the Custom Domains guide for full instructions.
Billing
What payment methods are accepted?
Credit and debit cards via Stripe. More methods may be added in future.
Do you offer refunds?
Contact [email protected] within 7 days of a charge for billing issues.
Do you offer student or non-profit discounts?
Not currently. Check the pricing page for any active promotions.
